It’s the time again, already – time for another meeting! The 2nd quarterly meeting for the TN Chapter of AFCOM will be held on Tuesday, June 12, from 11:30 AM until 2:00 PM, and we’ve got quite a bit to pack into this meeting.
First, I’m happy to announce that we will be joined by at least one member from the national AFCOM organization. Josh Ater is the marketing manager with iNet Interactive (the parent company of AFCOM) and would like to spend a few minutes talking to our chapter about some ideas to get the local chapter more involved in the Fall Data Center World conference coming up in October at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. As an incentive to get more people to show up to the meeting, Josh will be giving away two full conference passes! We will randomly select one TN Chapter of AFCOM member to receive a free pass, and to encourage you to invite someone else to come with you, we’ll also be selecting one random visitor to receive a free pass.

Last, but not least, Jeff O’Connor from Two Rivers Power is graciously sponsoring our lunch and will give a presentation on the latest in High Efficiency UPS Technologies. He’ll talk about the difference between off-line vs. eco-mode technologies, and some of the transformer-less UPS technologies now on the market. It should be a fascinating presentation for all!

Please RSVP to Scott Milliken (millikensa@ornl.gov) no later than June 8, 2012, so that we can get a head count for lunch.

Date: June 12, 2012
Time: 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM (Central)
Place: NHC Place at Cool Springs, 211 Cool Springs Blvd, Franklin, TN 37067
Lunch Provided by Two Rivers Power, LLC

I hope to see you there!

DCIM On a Dime: Using Open Source Software to Manage Data Center Infrastructure

There are many DCIM solutions available on the market, but convincing management to pay for those tools can be an impossible task for any sized shop. Open Source Software can help to bridge that gap, either as a final solution or as a stepping stone to a more feature rich, commercial package. This session will provide an overview of the open source packages in use at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, including an in-house developed, open source solution called openDCIM.

Data Center World

Las Vegas, NV – March 18-22

In less than two months it will be time for the next Data Center World conference. There are typically two each year in the US, and recently AFCOM has begun holding an annual conference in the Asia Pacific region. This is hands down one of the best conferences to attend if you want to get a crash course in what is new in the data center industry! The expo on March 21-22 is a convention hall packed with hundreds of booths from companies in the industry, from big to small, and gives you a chance to not only make contacts within the ones that you already know about, but to learn about ones that are so new or small that you haven’t had a chance to run across them yet. The rest of the conference has dozens of sessions that may be case studies, product information sessions, or best practice round tables. There is always something worthwhile to find.
